The Shamwari Game Reserve is 25,000 hectares of malaria-free, private game reserve situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
Shamwari is the longest established of the private reserves near Port Elizabeth, and the combination of luxury safari lodges and the outstanding work that they do with the Born Free Foundation has earned them numerous travel industry and conservation awards over the years.
The reserve boasts 5 eco-systems, and supports many forms of plant, animal and bird life, including the Big 5 as well as wild dog, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, hippo, zebra and numerous antelope species.
There are 7 lodges in the Shamwari portfolio, offering accommodation ranging from luxury tents to an Edwardian mansion in the heart of the bush.
All the lodges offer a fully inclusive African safari including accommodation, all meals and local drinks, 2 game drives per day in 4x4 vehicles, and an optional guided bush walk each day as well.

Pronounced 'By-ye-ti', the Bayethe Lodge offers the ultimate in luxury, tented accommodation.
Each of the 12 twin-bedded air-conditioned suites are camouflaged under trees allowing ample privacy, and have an en-suite bathroom, under-floor heating, outdoor shower, and viewing deck.
Sarili Lodge (access via 1st Gate)

Perfect for families or small parties, the lodge has 5 en-suite rooms in total - 2 luxury rooms with a balcony, 2 that open out onto a patio, and a suite. All the rooms have air-conditioning and a private minibar, as well as tea and coffee making facilities.
Riverdene Lodge (access via 1st Gate)

Each of the 9 twin-bedded rooms are fully air-conditioned, and have a television and telephone, and a small lounge area.
Private balconies from each room leads onto the beautifully landscaped gardens.
Lobengula Lodge (access via Shamwari Gate)

All 5 Junior suites at Lobengula Lodge are en-suite, with air-conditioning and under-floor heating, whilst the Chief suite boasts a large private lounge with fireplace and pool.
There is also a small gym and steam bath, and the spa offers a wide range of indulgent treatments.

Sumptuously prepared meals are enjoyed in the main dining room or around the open blazing fire at the Barn.

Decorated in light and contemporary colours, with wall-to-wall glass doors on 2 sides, the en-suite rooms all provide stunning views of the surrounding cliffs.
