Umilo Lodge is a 3*+ guest house situated in St Lucia, the only private village in the world to be completely surrounded by a World Heritage Site.

St Lucia is the perfect base from which to explore the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park (also now known as the iSimangaliso Wetland Park) and all that it has to offer. With a variety of activities available, from whale watching (June-November), tours of the Park, boat cruises and turtle tours (November-March), the ways in which to see this diverse coastal region will guarantee a truly memorable experience.

In the evenings enjoy a Braai at the boma, sitting around a campfire fire exchanging travel stories with your fellow guests, or wander into town and sample some of the local restaurants.

The accommodation consists of 12 air-conditioned en-suite rooms all equipped with refrigerators, hair dryers, tea and coffee making facilities as well as 10 TV channels. All rooms either have direct garden views or balconies overlooking the pool and garden.

In addition, there is a family unit with 2 separate bedrooms and a small private garden.

Guests can choose to laze on the wooden deck by the pool, or relax in the bar lounge which is surrounded by a fishpond.

Directions For Drivers

From Johannesburg: Take the N12 road to Witbank, turn off to Ogies. Then go through Bethal, Ermelo, Piet Retief, Pongola. Continue south along N2, past Mkuze and Hluhluwe. Take turn-off left to Mtubatuba and St. Lucia. As you arrive in Mtubatuba, turn left to St. Lucia (25 km). Once over the bridge into St. Lucia take a right at the round about and continue down the main street. After passing Spar keep a look out for the thatched fruit market on your right, from here take a left and you will see Umlilo Lodge.

From Durban: Take the N2 north - you have the option of the toll road or the alternate route via Stanger. 40 km after the turn-off to Richards Bay, turn right to Mtubatuba. As you arrive in Mtubatuba, turn left then right to St. Lucia (25 km). Once over the bridge into St. Lucia take a right at the round about and continue down the main street. After passing Spar keep a look out for the thatched fruit market on your right, from here take a left and you will see Umlilo Lodge.

From Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park: Leave the Park and take the R618 all the way to St. Lucia and follow the directions above.



General Information For Guests

All rooms are air conditioned, and all are equipped with a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, a room safe, a fan and a heater, a hair dryer, and a satellite/cable TV. There is complimentary Wi-Fi. 

The main area has a swimming pool, a restaurant/boma and a TV room.  There is 24 hour security on the premises.

Breakfast is served from 07:30 until 09:30. Packed breakfast boxes are available on request.

Dinner is served between 19:00 and 20:00, depending on your evening plans. All dinner bookings must be done before 14:00. The tables in the Boma Restaurant are placed around the braai fire which adds to a camping atmosphere. The menu includes traditional dishes such as Bobotie, Potjie Kos, Bunny Chow or a local favourite South African braai. Special dietary requests are always creatively taken care of.

Activities nearby include horse riding, bicycle tours, birding walks, kayaking, deep sea fishing, game drives, snorkelling excursions, golf, whale watching (June to November) and turtle tours (November to February). The lodge would be happy to assist with any bookings.
