Mabula Game Lodge

Mabula Game Lodge

The Waterberg

Mabula Game Lodge Location Map

Only 2.5 hours drive north of Johannesburg lies Mabula Game Lodge. This 12,000 hectare private reserve is malaria-free, and home to an abundance of wildlife and birds, including the world famous Big 5.

Morning and evening game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles are daily highlights and included in your rate. See impala, zebra, giraffe, eland and ostrich all graze together on the vast open grassland plains, listen out for the elephants crashing through the thick bush to get to the juiciest leaves, spot a shy hippo pair hiding everything but their protruding nostrils under the water, or admire the resident lion pride lazing under an African thorn tree after a tiring hunt.

For the wild-at-heart seeker of a true bush adventure (and at an additional cost), nothing could compare with the excitement and thrill of big game viewing on horseback or on a quadbike, or going on an informative bush walk guided by a highly professional and experienced game ranger.

Two swimming pools, a volleyball court and action cricket are just some of the other facilities available to guests. Guests are also able to indulge in spa treatments at the on-site Spa.

The 47 Superior Rooms boast a bedroom and living space. Some have a sleeper couch, making sure that families can also enjoy the Mabula 'experience' and there are also a number of interleading rooms as well. The 3 Suites are more spacious and are situated on an upper level, accessed by stairs only. Soft neutral bushveld colours are complemented by large windows, allowing the African bush indoors. The 40 Bushtime Rooms have a contemporary African decor.

The lodge has a main restaurant serving buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, or you can eat 'al fresco' on the terrace, surrounded by the sounds of the birds. There is also the opportunity to dine under the breathtakingly starry sky in the boma (weather permitting) usually every 2nd or 3rd night, accompanied by traditional Tswana dancing while you tuck into tasty South African and Indian cuisine.

Imagine roasting marshmallows over a boma fire under the Milky Way, learning to track the Big Five, the Small Five and the Ugly Five, or spending the afternoon outdoors enjoying all the 'old school' games that parents loved to play.

Mabula Game Lodge offers a host of kid-friendly activities in the bush, while good old fashioned activities around the lodge such as bingo, tug of war, pool competitions, sack races, egg and spoon races and coin diving all make sure that kids go to bed tired, happy and sun-kissed every evening.

The team at Mabula has curated a very special selection of activities just for the kids. Think dazzling stargazing drives; a Junior Guide Academy where kids are taught how to track spoor, identify bird calling sounds and learn the uses of trees and plants; and a Kiddies Birding Safari with a qualified guide.

The family can also have hours of fun at the Wild Playzone. Enjoy some healthy competition with an action soccer game, cricket, netball or basketball.

All of the holidays we prepare are tailor-made, but this might give you an idea of how Mabula Game Lodge can be included in you own dream holiday.
