Hluhluwe River Lodge is situated on the western shore of Lake St Lucia and adjoins False Bay Game Reserve and the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park (also now known as the iSimangaliso Wetland Park).

The world-famous Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is only 30 minutes from the lodge, and offers excellent game viewing and a chance to see the Big 5 from open Land Rovers. Other guided activities include the Sandforest Discovery Trail, in the heart of the sandforest of False Bay Park. Guests can explore on foot this rare sub tropical forest, followed by a drive down to the lakeshore, where the solitude and spectacular views of Hell's Gate peninsula make it the perfect place for sundowners and snacks.

Other adventure activities include horse riding, scenic mountain bike trails, hikes, boat trips and a unique cultural tour on quad bikes.

The swimming pool is situated in a secluded part of the garden. Guests can enjoy a swim or relax by the pool side.

A comfortable lounge with a balcony overlooking the Hluhluwe river flood plain and False Bay Lake is the ideal place to relax in between activities, guests can enjoy one of the many books from the library.

12 thatched chalets are dotted around a magnificent indigenous garden, and all are air-conditioned, and have a private balcony overlooking the indigenous garden or bush.

There is a network of well lit paths connecting the rooms to the main lodge.

The dining experience at Hluhluwe River Lodge is comfortable and relaxed. Meals are served either in the dining room or outside on the main lodge deck, or around the fire lit traditional 'isibaya' dining area.

Directions For Drivers

From the N2: The lodge is 15 minutes from the N2 freeway and is accessed by a tar road that leads to False Bay. From this road there is a 6 km gravel road to the entrance to the lodge. This road is passable in normal saloon cars.

From the N2 national highway, take the Hluhluwe off ramp. Proceed 7 km passing through the village of Hluhluwe and 4 turning circles at the last circle keep left and continue out of the town for 1.4 km. Look for the False Bay Resorts and Sodwana Bay signs directing you to turn right over a railway line. Proceed 3.4 km until you reach a small bridge. Immediately after the bridge the lodge signs will direct you to turn right onto the D540 gravel road. Follow this gravel road for 5 km and the entrance will be on your right hand side where the gate guard will welcome you.



General Information For Guests

All rooms have air conditioning, en-suite showers, a separate w/c and vanity area, safe, tea/coffee making facilities and mosquito nets. 

Each of the 8 standard chalets are built on stilts and located in the surrounding forest garden with access via a wooden ramp leading onto a covered wooden deck appointed with comfortable chairs and coffee table.

There are 2 open plan thatched family chalets with a double bed and a dormer set off to one side with 2 single children's beds. There is a drawable curtain to separate the children's beds from the rest of the room.

There are 2 honeymoon suites tucked away in a forested ravine just a short walk from the main lodge. A drinks service is available to the room from the main lodge.

The main lodge complex includes a reception, a lounge with a stunning view of the lake as well as a dining room, bar lounge and a sweeping terrace that offers wonderful views of lake St Lucia and the river floodplain.

A laundry service is available at an additional cost.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available.

Hluhluwe Gate entry fees are currently ZAR 220 for international visitors; ZAR 110 for SA residents.  Children under the age of 12 are half price. Rates are subject to change.
