Thanda Private Game Reserve is situated approximately 300 km north of Durban, and invites you to experience ultimate luxury and world-class service. A full suite of animal species, including the Big 5, which roamed the area in the past have been reintroduced to the 14,000 hectare reserve, and guests can enjoy game drives in open game viewing vehicles, and bush walks guided by knowledgeable and experienced game rangers and trackers.

There is also a wellness centre, which offers a variety of therapies and beauty treatments to ease the effects of life's daily stresses on your body and mind.

The dedicated and professional chefs at Thanda Main Lodge will skilfully prepare an exquisite variation of Western and traditional Zulu cuisine.

And you choose where you would prefer to savour the masterpieces that will be presented to you - in front of a roaring fire in the dining room in winter, under sparkling skies on clear nights in the boma or in the bush, or for a more romantic or private option, in your own secluded private boma or terrace.

The 9 luxury bush villas at Thanda Main Lodge are pure indulgence. Each spacious bush villa has a private splash pool and viewing deck, sala, lounge, fireplace and a full bathroom with an inside as well as an outside shower.

The Zulu culture is fully embraced, by including elements of it throughout all aspects of the lodge, and guests will truly learn to appreciate the rich and still very much alive traditions of the Zulu people.

Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under the age of 6 will not be allowed on game drives. Children between the ages of 3 and 6 may accompany their parents on game drive if exclusive use of a Land Rover has been reserved - this is subject to availability and a surcharge per game drive (price on request). Children under the age of 3 will not be permitted on game drives at any time. Children under the age of 12 will not be allowed on bush walks, but special bush walks around the vicinity of the lodge can be arranged for younger children with their ranger. Baby sitters are available at a nominal rate and must be arranged prior arrival. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in the Wellness Centre. Children under the age of 3 are not allowed in the boma, dining room or decks for dinner - a private boma experience will be arranged for families traveling with children under the age of 3. Alternatively, room service dinner and a baby sitter can be arranged for children of this age. A children’s menu is available at all times.
