Thakadu River Camp is situated in the eastern section of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, just a 5 hour drive from Johannesburg, or 3 hours from Sun City.

The private reserve, which boasts 76,000 hectares of game viewing territory, is home to Africa's Big 5 - elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo - as well as wild dog, cheetah, plains game including gemsbok, springbok, zebra and giraffe, and over 340 species of birds.

Thakadu River Camp is an ecotourism partnership between North-West Parks, the Molatedi Community and the operator, The Madikwe Colletion. The community has a 45-year lease to operate a commercial lodge with traversing rights across the Madikwe Game Reserve. The concept is unique in South Africa in that the community owns the development, with substantial benefits accruing back to the community itself.

This lodge has a phenomenal atmosphere due to the foundations upon which it is built and the gratitude of the community which it is helping to build.

Thakadu River Camp is set within the riverine canopy along the banks of the Marico River and consists of 12 tented suites, each with their own viewing deck overlooking the river.

The tents are spacious and are superbly decorated and appointed. 4 of the tents are set to one side and make up Little Thakadu which is perfect for families or small groups of up to 8 people.

Price Guide: From ZAR3300 ( approx U$ 444 ) per person. Special Offers may apply - prices on request.

All meals and morning / afternoon game drives are included. PLEASE NOTE: For self-drive visitors, the cash entrance fee of R150 per adult and R100 per child (subject to change) to enter the reserve is NOT included. For guests arriving and departing via FedAir, the landing / departure fees are also excluded and are payable directly to the lodge (rates on request).

Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Special Childrens game drives are available for children under 6 years of age.
