Directions

From Johannesburg / Pretoria: Take the N12 / N4 from Johannesburg via Witbank and Middleburg towards Nelspruit. Turn left on the R540 towards Belfast. In centre of town turn right to Dullstroom and then on to Lydenburg / Mashishing. Pass through Lydenburg / Mashishing, taking the R36 to Ohrigstad, through the Strijdom Tunnel to Hoedspruit. In Hoedspruit, once crossing over a bridge over the railway line, the road stops at a 4-way crossing. Turn right onto the R40 towards Klaserie / Bushbuck Ridge. Turn left at the Eastgate Airport turn-off and continue straight to the central Timbavati control gate - please note that after approximately 18 km along this tarred road the road changes to gravel - it is then a further 36 km along this gravel road to get to the control gate.

Please note there is a Timbavati Conservation fee of R90 per person (children under 10 are free) payable on entering the reserve plus a vehicle entrance fee of R75 per vehicle (subject to change). The conservation fee contributes enormously to the running of the reserve and also serves to finance various other very worthwhile conservation projects that are undertaken by the Timbavati management.

Once in the reserve follow the signs to the lodge. Do not get out of your car until you reach the lodge. You may see some wildlife on your way - if you do, slow down and maintain a good distance. Do not drive off-road in any circumstances.

From Eastgate Airport / Hoedspruit: The reserve is clearly signposted from the Airport. From the Airport, turn left and continue along this road (Argyle Road) and follow the directions as above.

From Hazyview: Follow the R40 towards Klaserie. Continue through Klaserie, and about 6 km before you reach Hoedspruit itself, turn right at the signboard towards Eastgate Airport / Thornybush Reserve / Timbavati Reserve (Argyle Road). Go past the airport, and continue along this road and follow the directions as above.

From Kruger National Park / Orpen Gate: Exit the Park, and continue along the R531. Continue into Klaserie, turn right onto the R40, and follow the directions as above.
