Samara Karoo Lodge

Stretching from dramatic mountain terrain to the sweeping Plains of Camdeboo, the Samara Private Game Reserve encompasses 29,000 hectares of spectacular Karoo wilderness.

The reserve offers a tremendous game experience for those hoping to see cheetah (there is an excellent wild cheetah breeding programme in operation here), mountain zebra, the once-endangered white rhino, big herds of plains game such as kudu, eland, black wildebeest and beautiful birds, such as the rare blue crane.

The reserve is only a 3 hour drive from Port Elizabeth.

Whether ensconced in the comfort of an open game viewing vehicle, or trekking through the fragrant Karoo bush, guests can discover the secrets of Samara.

The untouched Plains of Camdeboo is also home to fossils that predate the dinosaurs, and the well-preserved Bushman paintings offer a fascinating insight into some of the historical intricacies of the past.

The Karoo Lodge is a traditional Colonial Karoo homestead, offering a taste of the lifestyle and traditions as the farmers lived back then.

The main homestead has 3 spacious bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. There are also indoor and outdoor dining areas, lounge areas, a bar area, a swimming pool, and a Karoo kitchen. All rooms open out onto the spacious covered patio surrounding the home with views onto the amphitheatre of mountains and famous karoo skies with stars so close you feel you can touch them.

There are also 2 Sibella Suites, and 3 Karoo Suites, all located just a short distance away from the main homestead, which are ideal for people looking for a bit more privacy.
