Other Useful Information

Please note that Victoria Falls is a malarial area, so please contact your doctor prior to travelling regarding taking the necessary precautions.

Please note as of the 1st of January 2008, all banks in Zambia will no longer accept travelers cheques. The only method of payment available in Zambia will now be credit cards or cash.

The whole visa waiver system has now been abolished for all visitors to Zambia. This change means that every visitor is obliged to pay for his or her visa either in advance or on arrival in Zambia. The current visa costs (as at 20 November 2008) are as follows :

All nationalities: $50 for single, $80 for double and $160 for multiple entry.

It is best to obtain visas prior to travel in order to avoid any potential problems with the airlines or with the Zambian Immigration Authorities. Visas can be obtained from your country's Zambian High Commission. Single entry visit visas are available at all ports of entry, but multi-entry visas are not so these must be applied for before travelling. The Zambian immigration website still has the old fees advertised but we are told it will be updated shortly. It is important to carry the exact amount with you, as change may not be available.

Standard room features and amenities include: butler service (from 7 am to 11 pm); satellite TV; radio on TV set; coffee and tea-making facilities; mini-bar; mini-safe; telephone with message/wake-up/voice-mail facilities; dry-cleaning and laundry; cots; babysitting service; 24 hour room service; video in suites.

General hotel facilities include a restaurant serving international and African cuisine, including a la carte; swimming pool; Royal Salon, offering massages, facials, and aromatherapy.

The resort is situated in the 46-hectare Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Wildlife Park, which fringes the Zambezi River and overlooks the Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls is recognised as one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The hotel has an Activity Centre where travel professionals will advise and recommend a variety of excursions and safaris, or activities can be pre-booked with Bushtracks Africa (telephone victoriafalls@bushtracksafrica.com; email victoriafalls@bushtracksafrica.com; website www.bushtracksafrica.com). Activities include the following:

Helicopter ride; Microlighting; White water rafting; River boarding; Jet boating; Tandem Kayaking; Canoeing; Abseil & Gorge Swing; Bungee jumping; Horse Trail Safaris; African Queen Cruises; Historic Tours of Livingstone; Maramba Market; Quad biking.

The Chobe National Park in Botswana is only 1? hour away from Livingstone. This safari trip can be booked also from the Activity centre. You are picked up from the hotel, and taken by road to the Chobe National Park - the transfer also includes a private boat across the Zambezi River, and all Customs and Immigration formalities. The safari begins with a cruise on the Chobe River with refreshments while the boat takes you close up to the waterfowl and wildlife along the river. Flocks of birds, large pods of hippos and crocodiles can be viewed from the safety of the boat. Lunch is served as you travel deeper into Chobe National Park. After the cruise, guests meet the safari vehicles waiting on the banks, and then set off further into the park to find some of the 45,000 local elephants, buffalo herds, sable, wildebeest, giraffe, and with luck, resident lions and hyenas. The game drive meanders its way back to the park gates for the return road transfer and guests arrive back at the hotel by 5 pm.

Elepnt Back Safaris can also be booked. The Park is resident to wild elephant, hippo, buffalo, impala, giraffe, zebra and small cats such as civet and servile. Guests will be able to ride with their guides through the beautiful riverine scenery, a unique experience to interact with this magnificent animal and understand its intelligence and willingness to act under instruction. The ride itself is approximately one hour, the interaction time spent with the elephants approximately 3 hours.

Explore the surrounding area at your own pace with the freedom of a hire car. It is only a short drive to the town of Livingstone, where you can visit the museum steeped in the history of the area, or enjoy your own cultural experience at one of the local markets. Further afield, take in Victoria Falls en-route to the famous Chobe National Park returning via the ferry at Kazungula. Car hire can be booked at Desk 1, The Falls Activity Centre (telephone: +260 (0) 3 322 753) or by emailing voyrent@coppernet.zm; or via their website www.africa-insites.com/zambia/voyagers.

Please note a new law has been passed in July 2006 that it is illegal to wear (or even have in one's possession) camouflage-style clothing if you are planning on travelling into Zimbabwe. It is an offence to be in possession of a "camouflage uniform" which is defined for legal purposes as any piece of "apparel" bearing a camouflage print or pattern. Should you be found in possession with any camouflage-style clothing you could receive a fine, 6 months in jail or both. They hold the right to detain passengers for up to 48 hours in prison before charging them. This is very important - no camouflage prints on board shorts, trousers, shirts, hats, bags etc.
