Kariega, Kariega Game Reserve

The 5,000 hectare Big 5 Kariega Game Reserve is situated in the malaria-free Eastern Cape, and River Lodge is located on the quiet, meandering Bushmans River.

Guests can enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives in open game viewing vehicles accompanied by experienced game rangers. The reserve is home to game and wildlife such as lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, hippo, giraffe, zebra, eland, wildebeest, waterbuck and a variety of antelope, as well as a myriad of bird species.

For those who want to do more than merely relax and enjoy the idyllic surroundings at Kariega, there is plenty to keep you busy.

A host of activities are offered, including game drives, hiking trails amongst more than 25 species of game and wonderful birdlife on the non-dangerous section of the reserve, fishing, bird watching, canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding, and river cruises.

The golden beaches of Kenton-on-Sea are less than 15 minutes away.

River Lodge's 7 luxuriously appointed suites are all decorated to a very high standard. There is also a 2 bedroomed thatched suite with separate living room, outdoor barbeque area and private swimming pool, which is ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together.

The Bushmans River flows beneath the deck of the main restaurant, and the outdoor dining is a magnificent experience under the abundance of stars in the African night sky.
