Reed Valley Inn

Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture and today has 6 independently owned lodges. All are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820.

Steeped in history and beauty, this 7,200 hectare game reserve is an ideal environment for an unforgettable Big 5 safari in a varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushmans River.

The reserve is divided by the N2 main highway, and the smaller section is home to the lions, who roam freely and enjoy a natural hunting habitat. Guests can go on morning and evening game drives in an open Land Rover in search of wildlife including not only lion, but rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, and over 16 antelope species.

After dark, the elusive nocturnal animals are searched out with the help of a spotlight as you drive through the reserve.

As part of one game drive during your stay, you can also enjoy a relaxing river cruise down the Bushmans River.

Guided walks with one of the qualified rangers are also offered.

The 4 comfortable en-suite bedrooms at Reed Valley Inn are positioned in the tranquil working farmyard just on the outside of the reserve's game fences, and are completely separate from the main homesteads to ensure guests' peace and privacy.

All meals are taken at Bush Lodge, which is about a 5 or 10 minute drive from Reed Valley Inn into the reserve.

There is also a swimming pool to relax around during the heat of the day.
