Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture and today has 6 independently owned lodges. All are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820. Steeped in history and beauty, this 7,000 hectare game reserve is an ideal environment for an unforgettable Big 5 safari in a varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushmans River.
There are various styles of accommodation, which include gracious colonial homesteads, classic bush lodges, an historic inn, a Settler farmhouse and an authentic ox-wagon camp.
Go on game drives in an open Land Rover in search of wildlife including rhino, lion, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, and over 16 antelope species, or take a night drive with cheese and wine sundowners before searching for elusive nocturnal animals; relax on a slow river cruise down the Bushmans River; or take a guided walk with one of the qualified rangers.
Farm style breakfasts and 3 course dinners are served in the main dining room with your hosts.
There is also a swimming pool to relax around during the heat of the day.
