Set deep in the heart of a rare dry sand forest, the spectacular stilted suites of the award-winning Phinda Forest Lodge are an exemplary exercise in building eco-sensitive structures. The lodge is situated in the Phinda Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, home to not only the Big 5, but a plethora of other animals and birds within its 22,000 hectares.

The expansive viewing deck has panoramic views of the game-filled plains, where delicious Pan-African cuisine is served to you in the evenings, or in the boma under the starlit African sky, illuminated by dozens of candles and lanterns.

Activities include twice-daily interpretive game-drives, nature walks, riverboat cruises and canoe trips along the Mzinene River.

As Phinda is close to the Indian Ocean, several optional beach-related adventures are also on offer, from scuba diving and deep-sea fishing to spectacular air safaris.

Or, alternatively, just choose to bask in the African sun around the sparkling rim-flow swimming pool.

Hand-built by local artisans, the 16 air-conditioned glass stilted suites at the Forest Lodge are all decorated in minimal style with maximum flair, and feature richly tactile fabrics, high-gloss wooden floors, and colourful Zulu artefacts. Slate hand basins and candles in matte-black pyramidal holders add to the ambience.

Wake up to the sight of graceful nyala and duiker browsing in the foliage of the sand forest right outside the glass walls of your private suite.

3 meals daily including all teas and coffees, 2 scheduled game drives daily in an open 4x4 safari vehicle, accompanied by an experienced ranger and tracker OR canoeing OR river boat cruises on the Mzinene River, interactive bush walks (one hour) accompanied by an experienced armed tracker, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, soft drinks and bottled water, laundry service and emergency medical evacuation insurance are included.

The rate excludes all other extras, any road or air transfers to and from the lodge and all airport taxes.

Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under 6 are not allowed on game drives, but shortened game drives (FOC) may be arranged with the lodge subject to availability of Land Rovers and rangers. Children aged 6 to 11 are allowed on game drives at the Lodge Manager's discretion. Children under 12 are not allowed on bush walks. Babysitting services are available.
