Pestana Bazaruto Lodge
Bazaruto Island, Bazaruto Archipelago
Pestana Bazaruto Lodge
The Bazaruto Archipelago is one of the most beautiful places on the African continent, complete with azure waters, sandy beaches, palm trees, and pristine coral reefs with tropical fish. The islands of Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque and Santa Carolina (Paradise Island), along with a few other tiny rocky outcrops, make up the Bazaruto Archipelago.
Declared a National Park in 1971, the archipelago boasts among its wildlife 180 species of birds, endemic butterflies, Suni antelope and freshwater crocodile. The protected reefs and beaches support dolphin, dugong, game fish, giant lobster and several species of marine turtle.
There is a freshwater swimming pool, ski-boating, yachting and Land Rover hire.
Conservation of the environment, particularly marine life, is always uppermost in the minds of the management, a fact that is reinforced during an introductory talk and slide show on the corals presented by the resident dive master.
The lodge dining room caters to the enthusiastic appetite of guests with either fresh crab, crayfish, calamari or prawns served daily. The attractive open air bar encourages guests to meet new friends, while a sundowner trip on a dhow provides a breath-taking way to end the day.
