From Johannesburg by Road

It is at least a 6 hour drive. If you would like a quote for a hire car, please do let us know and we will be happy to arrange this for you.

Transfer from Johannesburg by Road

We can arrange a road transfer for you if you didn't want to drive yourself - quotes available on request.

Daily Shuttle Service

You can fly daily from Johannesburg International Airport (or the O.R. Tambo as it is now known as) to the Timbavati Reserve. The service is run by Federal Air, and you are met at the airport by one of their professional Guest Relations team, and transferred to FedAir's private first class lounge where you can relax before boarding your flight to the Park.

The flight leaves at 12.15 pm, and takes about 90 minutes. For guests wanting to fly to Ngala Tented Camp or Ngala Safari Lodge, the flights leave at 9.15 am and then again at 12.50 pm, and takes about 60 minutes.

Upon landing in the reserve, you are met and transferred to the lodge by Land Rover.

There is, however, a baggage restriction of 20 kg per person, and you have to have a 'soft' bag (for easy storage in the plane), but you can leave any excess baggage safely at Johannesburg Airport, which you can then pick up when you return.

The return flight back to Johannesburg from Timbavati departs at 2.25 pm, and from Ngala Tented Camp or Ngala Safari Lodge, the flights leave at 11 am and then again at 2.35 pm.

Rates available on request.

Scheduled Flight from Johannesburg

There are daily flights run by South African Airlines from the Johannesburg International Airport to the Hoedspruit Airport, where we can arrange for you to be met and transferred to the lodge by road.

The flight takes about an hour, and the journey time then from the airport to the lodge is anything between 30 minutes to an hour (depending on what you may see en-route when in the actual reserve!).

Alternatively, you can hire a car from Hoedspruit Airport and drive yourself to the lodge - the advantage of this is that you then have a car to explore the beautiful Lowveld area around the Park after your safari if you have time in your holiday plans.

Scheduled Flight from Cape Town

There is one direct flight between Cape Town and Hoedspruit on a Tuesday and a Thursday (and from 2nd October 2011, a Sunday flight too), which takes about 2 hours 40 minutes, otherwise you would have to take a flight to Johannesburg (2 hours), and connect onto another flight to Hoedspruit. Total travelling time then would be between 4 - 5 hours, depending on connections.
