Makakatana Bay Lodge

Makakatana Bay lodge is the only privately owned game lodge set within the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park World Heritage Site (also now known as the iSimangaliso Wetland Park) - the heart of Africa's largest natural estuary.

This is one of the few natural wonders left on earth where there are unspoilt wilderness beaches, vast wetlands and game reserves all combined into one reserve. Experience the grandeur of tens of thousands of flamingos gracing the waters while hippopotamuses and crocodiles gracefully glide around, or watch sea turtles carefully lay their eggs on the beach on your luxury wilderness safari.

Makakatana Bay's premier location within the Wetland Park makes it ideal for activities like fishing, boating and scuba diving to hiking, horseriding, game viewing, whale and bird watching.

The lodge is set in dune forest that bursts out over a wetland onto the banks of the lake. Hippos and other wildlife often wander through the lodge, underneath the walkways. The outdoor dining deck and your room's private viewing deck allow you to watch these wild animals uninterrupted in their full glory.

Guests are accommodated in 6 bright and spacious rooms. Large windows and terrace doors open onto private viewing decks, skillfully combining luxury and integration with the environment.

There is also an additional outside shower under the stars for those more adventurous guests who want to shower closer to nature.
