Madikwe Game Reserve

Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the malaria-free 76,000 hectare Madikwe Game Reserve. As well as elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo, the reserve is also home to wild dog, cheetah, plains game including gemsbok, springbok, zebra and giraffe, and over 340 species of birds.

Set on a gentle slope nestled between 2 rolling hills, Madikwe Safari Lodge comprises of 3 separate, intimate camps - West, North and East. Professional and skilled rangers deliver a world-class interpretive experience of the bush on morning and afternoon game-drives in open safari vehicles.

Overlooking Madikwe's game-filled plains, the main guest areas in each camp feature cosy sitting and dining areas, as well as expansive viewing decks.

In the evenings, dzens of lanterns cast a romantic light over these intimate and simply sophisticated areas.

The nearby boma is the setting for evocative starlit dinners, with delicious and unique regional cuisine, simply prepared with an African flavour.

There are 17 chalets, split between the North and East camps. Each chalet features a sitting area, a bedroom with circular fireplace, a spacious dressing area with personal bar, and an en-suite bathroom. French doors opening onto wooden decking lead to inviting private plunge pools.

The very private West Camp, which consists of just 4 suites, can be booked on an exclusive basis, which is ideal for friends or families travelling together.

Children's Programme

Madikwe Safari Lodge will welcome your family with open arms. You will be shown to your family's accommodation, and you can get settled into your room. From then on, Madikwe Safari Lodge offers a host of fascinating and entertaining activities for children, bringing alive the magic of a safari. Every minute is supervised by rangers and camp staff, who provide hours of amusement and invaluable information to the children in their care. Your children will each receive a Planet Manager backpack, filled with surprises and containing an Eco-guide - a fantastic interactive booklet that encourages the conservation of the planet's precious natural resources. Throughout your stay at the lodge, your ranger will help the children to complete their guides, taking them out into the bush to collect feathers, pods, insects and leaves. At the end of your stay, the children will each receive a certificate declaring them official Planet Managers. Children will witness the regions's rich wildlife, including the famous Big 5 (from a distance, not close to) and the not-so-famous Little 5, and they will try their luck at spotting the lodges's 10 'Star birds'. The children will also learn why elephants have long noses, and why giraffes have long necks ! After lunch, the children will be invited to the kitchen to help cookies for afternoon tea, and the chef will encourage them to get stuck in, be creative and have fun. In the meantime, parents can indulge in an afternoon siesta ! Dinners are a true highlight, with an abundance of flavours and textures on offer. Early meals can be arranged, with a specialised children's menu - chicken skewers, sausage and mash, homemade pasta with fresh tomato sauce, and ice cream with hot toffee sauce. Delicious Pan African dinner platters are served in the dining area or perhaps in an outdoor boma under starry African skies. A special children's table is set aside in the boma, where children can share their own campfire complete with marshmallows for roasting - always under the ranger's watchful eye. The children will be enchanted by an abundance of adventures suited to their unique likes and dislikes. The ranger can take them on fishing or frogging safaris to explore some of the small wonders of the bush, or they can go on a bark-rubbing expedition and a bug hunt. They can visit the workshop to oversee maintenance to the safari vehicles, or they can learn how to make recycled paper, or spend time in the sun painting. Or perhaps they would enjoy a guided 'Pooh' walk to indentify animal droppings, spoor, animal species, trees and vegetation. Or go on a special children's picnic. The options really are endless !

Madikwe Safari Lodge was incredible! Highly recommended.

Our holiday was absolutely fantastic! Madikwe Safari Lodge was lovely, the service was impeccable, and the staff couldn’t do enough to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Our ranger was brilliant, and we saw so many animals. The safari was by far the best part of our holiday, thank you so much for organizing our trip to Madikwe, everything was exactly as promised, but better.

I wanted to thank you very much for your assistance with my recent trip to Madikwe Safari Lodge. We had a marvellous time. I was very impressed with the accuracy and care in your recommending the lodge, internal flights and with your attentiveness generally, which was much appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome back to soggy, dull, miserable & chilly England. All the arrangements you made for us went perfectly; from being met at the airport, to our transfer back. I don't think you could have possibly suggested a better place for us than Madikwe, nor a more wonderful lodge and company than CC Africa's Madikwe Safari Lodge. Truly, truly fantastic & memorable experience. Thank you for all your invaluable help and advice.

I am just returning your email to say what a wonderful holiday we had both at the Palace Hotel but especially at Madikwe Safari Lodge. We were so well looked after and every need catered for, we saw all animals except a leopard but that will have to be next time! The transfers were good and all on time. The Palace was as good as i remembered it and as I said Madikwe was delightful and would be difficult to surpass. On that note we are open to suggestions for future years? Once again thanks for all your help towards a memorable visit.

Just a short note the thanks you for organising what turned out to be the best holiday we have ever had. Madikwe Safari Lodge was perfect. Annette’s birthday could not have been made more special, never mind the cake, they brought in a choir for her, she was in tears. The next day when we checked out they brought out the choir again and I nearly was. Klein Oliphants was brilliant. Cape Grace was fabulous as was our meal in Baia. I could get used to this. Please rest assured that we will be singing your praises and recommending your services every chance that we get.

Pack For A Purpose

Madikwe Safari Lodge supports Pack for a Purpose, an initiative set up to enable travellers to make meaningful contributions to help meet the needs of the places they visit.

There is need everywhere in the world. People who travel to other countries often wish they could bring things along, for distribution out to local communities, but without knowing more about this, it is difficult to know specifically what items will be welcome and worthwhile.

Madikwe Safari Lodge work with local community-based projects, and via the Pack for a Purpose website, they provide details of the project and a list of items that are specifically required. In this way, as the traveller, you can decide whether you wish to 'pack for a purpose' and bring along additional items which meet the needs of the people who will be using them.

If you book a stay here with Travel Butlers, we will provide all the details of what you could take along to support Madikwe Safari Lodge and their local community.
