Surrounded by 76,000 hectares of malaria-free African bushveld, Madikwe River Lodge is ideally positioned on the Groot Marico River in the heart of the Madikwe Game Reserve. As well as elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo, the reserve is also home to wild dog, cheetah, plains game including gemsbok, springbok, zebra and giraffe, and over 340 species of birds.

Madikwe River Lodge is a child-friendly establishment, and children of all ages are welcome. The main lodge has a beautiful swimming pool with sun deck, a rock pool, and a curio shop. For guests, the African adventure here is both rewarding and relaxing.

Game drives and bush walks are conducted daily, and although children under the age of 8 years are not permitted on the standard game drives, specialised Children's Drives are offered.

The experienced game rangers share their intimate knowledge of the bush, allowing guests to discover the mystery of the acacia bushveld, enjoy a myriad of birdlife and experience the thrill of observing the majestic Big 5 in their natural habitat.

Madikwe River Lodge offers comfortable accommodation in 16 split-level thatched chalets.

Each chalet is individually decorated to create a rich African feel, and offer an en-suite bathroom and shower, ceiling fans, and a private wooden viewing deck overlooking the river.

The family rooms have twin beds and an additional sleeper couch. Cots are available on request, as well as a babysitting service.

All meals and morning / afternoon game drives are included. PLEASE NOTE: For self-drive visitors, the cash entrance fee of R150 per adult and R100 per child (subject to change) to enter the reserve is NOT included. For guests arriving and departing via FedAir, the landing / departure fees are also excluded and are payable directly to the lodge (rates on request).

Children of any age are welcome. Rates available on request. Children under the age of 6 years are not permitted on the standard game drives, but special children's drives are offered. Babysitting services are available.

"Madikwe River Lodge was spot on for families, although the cot was old and they did not have any highchair for dining - a bit disappointed but the manager has assured me that they will buy them soon. A bit late for us.

Otherwise, the staff were friendly and the safari trips were great."
