Directions For Drivers
From Cape Town/Hermanus/The Winelands/Swellendam/Wilderness: Follow the N2 to Knysna. When you approach Knysna, you will cross a bridge - there will be a small section of the lagoon on your left, and the main lagoon will be on your right. Carry on straight through the town, past the hospital on the left-hand side, and go round a bend to some traffic lights. At this set of traffic lights there is a SPAR shop and a Caltex Garage.
Cross over these traffic lights, keeping in the right-hand lane, and turn right into George Rex Drive (signposted The Heads, Industrial Area, Leisure Island). Continue along this road for approximately 5 km, with the lagoon always being on your right-hand side. You will pass the Knysna Golf Course on your left-hand side, and past the golf course, you will see the turning for Leisure Isle to the right.
Turn right, drive over the causeway and onto the island. At the 4-way stop, turn left into Woodbourne Road. Continue for 1.8 km. Leisure Isle Lodge is situated at 87 Bayswater Drive on your right opposite Bollard Bay beach.
From Port Elizabeth/Plettenberg Bay: Take the N2 to Knysna. When you approach Knysna, take the George Rex Drive turn-off to the left (signposted The Heads, Industrial Area, Leisure Island). Continue along this road for approximately 5 km, with the lagoon always being on your right-hand side. You will pass the Knysna Golf Course on your left-hand side, and past the golf course, you will see the turning for Leisure Isle to the right. Turn right, drive over the causeway and onto the island and follow the directions above.
PLEASE NOTE: Parking is situated behind the lodge, drive past the lodge, and take the first road right, till the T-junction, then right again 3 houses down and right into parking area.
General Information For Guests
All of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, a flat screen TV, an in-room safe, minibar/fridge, bathrobes, tea/coffee making facilities, under floor heating, ceiling fans, complimentary water, a fruit plate, turndown service and daily homemade biscuits.
The lodge has a restaurant (Daniela's Restaurant), bar, spa, swimming pool, garden, viewing deck overlooking Knysna Lagoon and a library.
The private in-house spa offers a variety of different treatments, therapies and massages (additional cost).
If you wish to dine at the lodge, then it is advised you book a table in advance.
Knysna Leisure Isle was a super choice. The staff were lovely and we took advantage of their offer of bikes to cycle around the island. The room was superb and they upgraded us to one facing the lagoon. It is easy to drive to the viewpoint at the heads and the cafe below is a great lunch stop. Eating on the waterfront is safe and easy and they will call a taxi for you although the second time we drove as the parking is easy. We went whale watching again which is a super boat trip from there, quite speedy. The meals at Leisure Isle Lodge are very good and at breakfast you can watch their resident weaver birds as their nests are hanging from a tree by the window.
