Duba Plains
In the furthermost, remote reaches of the Okavango Delta lies Duba Plains, an unobtrusive camp built on an island surrounded by expansive seasonally flooded plains and shaded by tall ebony, sycomore fig and mangosteen trees in a private 30,000 hectare concession. Duba is particularly suited to those who want to be in a truly remote reserve.
Duba Plains is known for the titanic clashes between buffalo and lion, and so a classic day or night game drive is one that tracks down the truly enormous buffalo herd to see if any lion are also headed in that direction.
Birdlife is abundant and impressive, with many Okavango Delta specials such as Rosy-throated Longclaw, Slaty Egret and Wattled Crane being found in the area.
Mokoro trips are also possible in times of good floods - usually only between May and September.
The main guests areas includes a thatch-roofed lounge, a dining room and bar, all of which are raised on decking, and the extra elevation provides a beautiful view. There is also a small swimming pool for guests enjoyment.
Guests are now able to take part in a village tour from the camp, travelling by helicopter on a 15 minute scenic flight each way. The tour will include being met by the chief, seeing the primary school and local clinic and visiting the local ironmonger and see how various implements are forged. The approximate 3 hour trip is designed to enhance guests' understanding of local Setswana life and culture.
