De Hoop Opstal Camp
Situated just 3 hours drive from Cape Town, the 36,000 hectares of the De Hoop conservation area forms part of a World Heritage Site, and is an ideal 2+ night stop over en-route between Cape Town and the Garden Route.
A 19 km vlei stretches across the reserve and is home to rich birdlife, including pelicans that breed on its waters each year.
The 3 nautical miles of the De Hoop Marine Reserve beyond the shoreline offer some the best whale viewing in the world, with some of 40% of the Southern Right Whale population coming to the bay each year to breed.
Hikers and cyclists have close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, red hartebeest, baboons and ostrich.
Activities are diverse and guests choose between various day walks, the multi-day whale trail, mountain biking along the many gravel roads, or scenic game drives. Lazing on the beach and snorkelling in the many turquoise rock pools is simply another way to pass a rewarding day.
The Village consists of 9 3 bedroom cottages, each with their own lounge and dining area, or the 3 Opstal Houses also have 3 bedrooms. For couples, the 7 Equipped Cottages or the 3 Vlei Cottages are ideal, as they have just 2 bedrooms. The Opstal Manor House consists of 3 en-suite bedrooms with a shared lounge area with the other guests staying there.
The Figtree Restaurant is open to all guests, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and can also produce picnic hampers on request.
