Children's Programme

The Team Tusker Programme caters for safari-goers under the age of 12, and is structured to stimulate and entertain younger guests, as well as to allow parents to take a little “time out” (particularly during night-time elephant safaris). Please note, children under the age of 10 may only be accommodated on early morning elephant safaris (if they are accompanied by parents / guardians).

Kids are whisked off into a wildlife wonderland, and are able to participate in any number of exciting activities which have been designed with optimum enjoyment in mind (and a lot of exciting learning too!).

The Team Tusker Programme runs from 10 am to 13.30 pm, and then again from 3 pm to 4 pm daily.

Activities include spoor identification (learning about the “foot” prints of Africa’s wild animals); tracking; dung throwing; camp and survival basics (learning to make a tent, fire, meal); orienteering (learning to find the way home); basic bush cooking and baking (for those budding chefs!); Tusker tales (fascinating stories and gigantic tales of elephants); dress up party (kids will dress up their ranger in traditional “Shangaan” garb); cheetah paw paintings (kids are able to sketch their own renditions of real-life cheetah paw prints); animal art (making animals on loose rocks – fantastic to show-off back at home); star-naming (learning about the heavens and constellations in the Southern skies); seeds and pods (learning how even the tallest tree comes from a minute beginning); radio-speak (kids may participate in 2-way radio communications, and learn about the correct etiquette and use and of on-air language and the alphabet); cheetah conservation initiatives (teaching kids about the importance of conserving our endangered species for the enjoyment of generations to come); making paper (out of recycled elephant dung….); T-shirt safari (making personalised T-shirts); bird watching and identification (feathered friends are just as exciting!); bug catching; African song and dance (learning more of traditional African cultural music and movement); mammal behaviour lessons; flori-bundance (learning about different plants and their medicinal uses and healing powers); Land Rover orientation (junior rangers must know the ins and outs of their safari vehicle!); indigenous stories and basic language skills.
