Bukela Lodge

Average guest rating:5.0

The 5* Bukela Lodge, situated in the 7,200 hectare, malaria-free Big 5 Amakhala Game Reserve less than an hours drive from Port Elizabeth, offers a gentle, tranquil escape from the world.

The reserve is divided by the N2 main highway, and the smaller section is home to the lions, who roam freely and enjoy a natural hunting habitat. The abundant wildlife that can be seen on guided game drives includes not only lion, but also cheetah, black and white rhino, elephant, giraffe, zebra and buffalo.

Lodge

The main lodge comprises a reception, dining and sitting area with a central fireplace which is always the centre of attraction in winter.

Also available are a media and library area with Internet, television, dvd player, games and books and a large wooden pool deck overlooking a small dam frequented by buffalo.

A separate area known as a “boma” adjoins the main lodge where bush braais can be enjoyed under the open starry African night.

Lodge2
This intimate 4 suite lodge offers an exclusive African safari experience which, combined with the luxurious, secluded accommodation, and variety of dining options, creates a remarkable, private retreat in which to regenerate body and mind.

Each suite is individually styled in African simplicity, and are separated from the main lodge by wooden walkways and indigenous bush.

The suites are well appointed for guests’ optimal comfort with every amenity, including a large, en-suite bathroom with a spa bath overlooking the African bush, an indoor and outdoor shower for the more adventurous, a central fireplace for romantic evenings, air-conditioning, underfloor heating, a private wooden deck, bar fridge and hot drink amenities.

"Our stay at The Elephant House was the first of many decadent experiences. The setting for breakfast out in the open overlooking the pool and garden was very special. It really had the wow factor - we would have loved to stay more than one night but it was an ideal choice as we could visit Addo Safari in the morning from The Elephant House before going on Safari at Bukela Lodge in the afternoon. It was an excellent plan. We really loved our trip to Addo with a very friendly ranger from The Elephant House - it was a real highlight of our trip and we would not have known it was possible to do this without you."
