If we hadn’t we would have wanted more but the last 2 drives were very much a repeat of the first 4 drives. Julius, our ranger, was fabulous.”

S SMITH, December 2011“This is a superb, intimate camp in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve.
Accommodation is in luxury thatch bungalows, or luxury tents for those looking for a little more "bush ambiance". The camp architecture is tasteful and appropriate to the context and climate.
There is impressive attention to detail (one example: beds strewn with fresh rose-petals). Food was creative and excellent, Hannah, Darius and the staff were attentive and informative, and overall the level of service was impeccable.
Being a private reserve, there are no constraints on where vehicles can drive, so it is possible to get "up close and personal" with the animals. Depending on your point of view this is either a plus (from the perspective of close-up game-viewing) or a minus (from the perspective of habitat, which gets a lot of abuse in the process). Setting aside our personal reservations about habitat damage, we appreciated the fact that Darius went to great lengths to give us stunningly close views of the game.
All private game reserves are very expensive, and while Kwa-Mbili is lower-priced than many, it is no exception to the rule. Those able to afford the eye-watering price tag will have an exceptional experience. Highly recommended.”

Most of the game drives are a success, since the 3 lodges, which belong to the same operator are communicating by radio. If one of the 3 rangers see a wild cat, they will inform the other two.

C BOULAY, November 2011“We were a little bit curious as Umkumbe looks like an "entry level" lodge. We were just wrong; yes rooms are not luxurious, but we were not there for that! We were there to see animals and feel the wild "atmosphere" and we have been lucky!!
Out of this, Umkumbe team is great, very professionnal, smiling team, Hermann and his boys are fantastic and service is a 5 stars service.
My car was dirty and it has been cleaned, my wife's shoes were more than dirty, they have been cleaned and looks more than new ones etc etc ...
That was a great safari for us and on top of service, guides were great!!!
Do not tell to too many people that this lodge is great otherwise they will become more expensive with less service!!!!
We are very happy of our choice.

Cape Grace was brilliant - great service, food etc - truly world class.
Protea Quays at Knysna - clean, efficient, bit like a Premier Inn - but OK for the money and well located for restaurants etc
Ocean Eleven at Hermanus - really great small private hotel - huge rooms, fantastic views, really good staff and generally very good value - would recommend and stay there again on another visit - the apartment was massive and the suites lovely - also free port and sherry, chocolate, crisps etc - as per the Cape Grace.
Everything went as planned - thanks again.”
