The above are just some suggestions of the wildlife experiences that you can enjoy in South Africa as an alternative to going on a 'traditional' safari.  This may certainly appeal to those people who are looking to still retain some wildlife adventure but not necessarily needing to tick off sightings of the Big 5 again.

Elephant Back Safaris

An elephant back safari is a truly unforgettable experience.  Imagine ambling slowly through the African bush on top of the largest African animal of the bush itself, and looking down and around at the sights from a completely different viewing perspective.

Walk past grazing antelope and zebra, who are totally undisturbed by the passing elephant procession; look over the tops of the trees or peer into bird's nests ... or even look a giraffe straight in the eye ! 

Guests are normally seated on comfortable canvas-covered saddles behind an experienced elephant handler, and the elephants follow each other silently and in a single file through the bush.

Horse Back Safaris

Exploring the African bush on horseback offers a completely unique wildlife experience.  The horses are exceptionally well-schooled, and both expert riders and novice alike can enjoy the activity.  

Riders will be given a horse that matches their riding ability, and for the complete novices, the horses can be led by a professional guide until you get your confidence in the saddle. 

Listen to the sounds of the bush that otherwise would be missed over the engine noise of a Land Rover; smell the fragrances that arise from the bushes as your horse brushes past the foliage; and take your time to enjoy the scenery and wildlife at a relaxed pace. 

Nature / Wildlife Reserves
