Storms and floods hit Cape Town and surrounding areas

Friday, November 14th, 2008

The Western Cape of South Africa has been hit hard by severe storms this week as reported in The Cape Argus. The N1 and many roads in the Overberg area are closed due to flooding, and the town of Montagu has been totally cut off. The N2 coastal road that links Cape Town to the Garden Route and Port Elizabeth remains open.

Cape Town appears to be over the worst of it for the moment, however more rain is expected for the Garden Route and Overberg over the weekend, and November rainfall stats look certain to set new records.   See the 3 day weather forecasts for more details.

Holidaymakers should check their routes before heading off, and it would probably be wise to avoid unnessesary trips as those roads that are open will have more traffic than usual and the weather conditions will also cause more problems.

South Africa Set To Bask in Warm Sunshine Over Easter

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

The early Easter this year means that the contrast between weather in South Africa and the UK over the holiday period is even  more marked than usual.

Whilst much of the UK is forecast to have a cold-snap over the Easter weekend, Cape Town is set to see clear skies and temperatures of up to 29°c over the next 5 days.

The picture is the same over the rest of the country, with Kruger seeing some showers today but then turning dry with plenty of clear skies and temperatures up to 30°c over the weekend.

With the tourist exchange rates for the Rand currently floating around the R15.00 = £1.00, sunny skies and some places still reporting late availability, it might not be too late to book a short notice getaway to South Africa this Easter.

South Africa Basks in Warm Sunshine Over The Holidays

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

After a period where the weather over much of South Africa was cool , wet and blustery,  and there was severe flooding in some areas such as the Garden Route, it appears that normal service has been resumed just in time for the Christmas and New Year peak.

Cape Town is due to enjoy clear skies and temperatures with highs of around 25°C for the next couple of days with this rising to a blistering 35°C on Saturday.

On the Garden Route the picture is milder (22°C - 26°C for the next three days), but again no rain is forecast, and in Kruger the outlook is 26c for today and Saturday, and 29°C for tomorrow (Friday).
