There are a wide range of books on South Africa available, although it may not always be possible to find maps and the most up to date editions of many guide books in your local bookstore.

The bookstores in larger towns or cities often carry a good range, as do bookstores at major airports, however for most visitors the choice is to either order online or wait until they arrive in the country (although this is not always as easy as it sounds and books are fairly expensive througout Southern Africa!).

We would particularly recommend that you invest in a good guide book and a road map if you are planning a self-drive holiday.
